Joins and Pattern Matching in Made to Measure Curtains

If your made-to-measure curtains are over a certain width (147cm) then you can expect to have a join in them.

Maple Joined.jpg

Can you spot the join in the picture above?!

This is because made to measure fabrics tend to come in one width: 137 centimetres. The width of the curtain comes from the width of the roll, meaning that the length comes off the roll, allowing long, uninterrupted drops. A horizontal join would be very noticeable and something no reputable retailer will offer.

The join is more visible if you get closer!

A vertical join can be very discreet if handled well. If the fabric is patterned then we will match the pattern along the seam. If the fabrics are matched well then the join is almost invisible, only noticeable if you are deliberately looking for it

The plainer the fabric, the more obvious the join will be. But if you dress your curtains well (see our handy guide), then the join can be hidden within a pleat and rarely seen.

The join disappears when the curtains are dressed!

How many joins can you expect?

This next bit is a bit technical, so feel free to skip:

Curtains to fit tracks or poles of up to 147cm will be made up of a width of fabric in each curtain and so will have no joins.

For tracks or poles from 147 cm to 219 cm, your curtains will be made up of width and a half in each curtain. When you hang the curtains, putting the half width on the outer side of the window rather in the middle, makes the joins less noticeable.

Curtains for tracks or poles of 220 cm up to 289 cm will have two widths joined together in each curtain.

Tracks or poles with a width of 290 cm up to 370 cm will have two and a half widths in each curtain. Whilst tracks of 371 cm and over will have three widths of fabric in each curtain.

When you enter your sizes into the website, if you scroll down to the bottom of the product page, you will see highlighted the size that you will receive, so you know what to expect.

The width sizes run from left to right in the top bar.

127 cm curtains will have no joins.

193 cm curtains are made up of one and a half widths of fabric in each curtain and so will have one join in each curtain.

260 cm wide curtains are made up of two widths of fabric joined together to make each curtain and so will have one join in each curtain.

329 cm curtains will be made up of two and a half widths on each curtain and so will have two joins per curtain.

And finally 398 cm wide curtains will be made up of three widths of fabric in each curtain and so will have two joins per curtain.

In the example above, the 193 cm size is highlighted, so I know that each curtain I receive will be made up of one and a half widths of fabric, and so will have one join in each curtain.

Made to measure curtains will pattern match from the top and every pair within your single order will match each other.
