Self patterned fabrics feature a design or motif that is woven into the fabric. As such, a design is created simply by changing the direction or thickness of the weave rather than the colour. The fabric tends to be monochrome, made up of varying shades of the same colour. This allows a pattern to be introduced into a design scheme without having to add more colour. The effect is subtle and is less brazen than a printed or multi coloured design.
The pattern is also woven into damask; though this type of fabric may have an extra colour or two added to the weave. Damask fabrics tend to include a variety of textures; contrasting shiny and matt surfaces to enhance the design.
The self-patterned and damask department features mostly traditional designs. These will sit well in period or classically designed interior. Perfect for adding a touch of opulence and elegance, this type of fabric offers a lasting; timeless appeal.
